Hunting has its ups and downs. When you explore, adventures happen, then they are recorded in the logs. Some of the better ones are shared here.
“Nice Sunday walk. If I had read the logs, I would have taken a new cache sheet. Didn’t sign it, too wet. On our way back to the car, my little terrier caught a big black toad (frog?) under one of the cattleguards. She bit into it and immediately started foaming at the mouth and became very ill. We forced some water into her (she didn’t want it) after which she got sick and then except for being lethargic for the rest of the day she was fine. Just a heads up if you see your dog playing with a big toad. “ smsaunt

Another one in a listing:
“The cache was set on a May afternoon and I had hoped to beat the storm coming in, but no such luck. An intense hail storm started just below the cache location. When I came to the slope break, thunder and lightning stopped me right at the cache spot. For 30 minutes, lightning strikes flashed all around among the thunder peals. I hid below the edge of the hill and watched the display. Hail is easy to deal with because it does not get you wet, but by the time it had finished, there was two inches of compacted hail-snow on the ground. While waiting, I decided to place the cache right there. I wondered if the GPSr is accurate in a lightning storm with heavy hail, so I decided to make the hide as close to the trail as possible and in a spot that will be found with clues.”

Valleyview Silt Cliffs: Ridges and Gullies
“This time it was an uneventful cache…The last time (Sept 1/09) we (Crusader93 & I) went to get this one we were struck by lightning…. Yes we were… I’m not joking!! It didn’t go through us. But we were tossed. We were 75 meters away from getting the first cache & the next thing we knew we were on our knees on the ground. Then we were tossed to the west & lying on our side. Poor Crusader93 landed on some Cacti. I don’t know where Lulu got tossed to, but she came running back up the hill. She was directly in front of me.. The ER Doc said we were lucky.. You either live or you die.. You two lived… We did have concussions though..& burnt scalps.. We had to take some time off work to get past the nausea & awful headache. Crusader93 didn’t even have her own GPS on Sept 1, so I was worried that she would call it quits after that…Not her… that W/E she bought a GPS that was better than mine!!! Go Crusader93 Go!!”
Re: Valleyview Silt Cliffs: Ridges and Gullies – The lightening struck us on Sept 28/09. Since then Crusader93 has 258 finds to her name. This was definitly one of my most memorable caches.
From TechNic:
“#620. Having an extended cab truck with running boards, I tried to get as close as possible on the potholed road. I still ended up parking about 1.4 km. away as the crow flies. Wouldn’t you know it, there were no crows going in my direction today, so I had to wind my way up, making for a much longer hike. I read the cache descriptions and the logs for both the Sky High caches and the Twenty Peaks: Rousseau cache, in preparation for the hike. I neglected to cling to the operative words: Keep right at all major junctions. As I was hiking up the road, I kept to the right for the most part, but came to a double track that went right off the major road. Remembering to always keep right, I took that track. As I got higher up that grass covered double track, I knew that at some point I needed to head left. So I looked for and took at the next trail going left. That at least was heading in the right direction. The higher I got up that old trail the smaller the overgrown trail got until it petered out. As I was still getting closer to the cache, I decided to bushwack through the ravine that lay ahead. Down one side and up the other, I continued to bushwack up until I came across a nice gravel double track again. I then knew that if I had stuck to that track from the bottom I would end up where I did. My GPSr indicated that I was a bit too high for the posted trail that was to head up the gentle grass slopes and to the top, so I headed down the double track and found the suggested trailhead. From that point, I climbed up the grassy, open slope, carefully choosing my way, until I got near the top where numerous outcroppings forced me to refine my route. At that moment I had a flashback: Mt. Vicars. I had to pick and choose the best route between the outcroppings, as I could not see too many better opportunities. As I approached the top, it started to level out, which was a welcome relief. I went for SH#10 first, then over to this one. Again, choosing the route carefully, I soon located the cache. I agree that this is one of the best view points yet for the area. Finding a route down from the top was as hard as finding the way up. Before resorting to my GPSr, I just followed my instincts to get me down, but kept standing on top of the outcroppings, wondering which direction would best. Finally, to get me off the top, I got my GPSr out again and followed my track back out.
After getting myself off the very top, I set sights for Sky High #9, trying to stay as high as possible while crossing the narrow pass between these two outlier hills. TFTH. TNLN. SL.”
I was not sure where to put this in on the page so I thought why not here. This news clip from Global BCTV was brought to my attention and I found this link . . . Mike McCardell on Raccoons and Geocaching . . . with two local cachers.

Another log:
Its a cool morning, the perfect day for a hike in the grasslands. The flowers are blooming & the wind is blowing the grass and keeping the Geodog Lulu & I cool. There was an interesting note on the log on July 3…. apparently by a KRCC inmate on the loose (being sought by the RCMP) who came across the cache. Thanks for the view up here and the quiet hike. TN, left keychain.
Not sure where to sent basic information. For example another local cacher has reached 1000. Say congrats to smsaunt. I also have a geocaching question I was waiting to ask someone at sunpeaks. Is there a place I could do that on this site?
As I teach myself the features of the software, I will expand the way it works. Right now the only way you can post information is to haev an account and leave a reply. Alternately, I can assign you “author” rights to post to the page or to landing site. I am working on adding a general forum and we will see how it works.
