One of our most active geocachers is leaving the Kamloops area and moving to 103 Mile House. Mrs. Zee (Fay and Kerry) will move on at the end of November. Interior Geocachers would like to wish her the best and thank her for the geocaches she has placed and for setting a pace on finding geocaches for us all to follow. We always found them to be fearless when it came to backroads, off-trail routes, and finding challenging caches.
They will be missed, but we hope to see them once in awhile since they won't be too far away. I think we will also see more caches in the 100 Mile House area in the spring.
In the meantime, Mrs. Zee would like to adopt our their caches in our area. To see how to do this, go to:

Couloir will take on the Bonaparte caches. Who else will help out?

The big news for Kamloops is the New Geocacher Event on Oct. 29th at McArthur Island. Excellent publicity, support, and organization. Many thanks to Rokman for his leadership. Geocachers are encouraged to turn out to support this initiative.
The second news is that this web site is in the process of deconstruction. The website owner will retire this site and has already started his own blog site. Within the next week, only a landing page will be found here. Like an old cache, a website can also be worn out. Watch for a new blog soon. For a sneak preview, go to http://www.cachein.net

A new event for beginning geocachers is planned for Oct. 29th.
From the Event listing:
"The McArthur Island Treasure Hunt (MITH) series is a geo-training playground for new geocachers with a variety of cache types and difficulty levels. Caches are safe, family-friendly, and some are wheelchair accessible. All caches promote the highest standards of geocaching etiquette by encouraging cachers to practice low impact caching, respect other park users, and trade responsibly.
Most of all, they are meant to be fun!"

ShareWhen any community becomes saturated with caches, the total volume of geocaching goes down. Caches need to be at least 161m apart so the number of new geocaches declines. The region may still see new postings for explorations out in the bush, but the majority of geocachers start within the community. To renew geocaching in our area, we need to archive old, tired caches, puzzle caches with no current activity, and multis/series with little activity.
The burden is on cache owners to remove these older caches. The geocaching community can help by volunteerng to pick up archived caches and by encouraging cache owners with their thanks and congraatulations. An archived geocache is just an invitation for a new one.
ShareA series of high-calibre videos are now available from local geocacher Esconder, featuring journeys to locations in our area.
This recent one followed his explorations of Long Lake and Island Lake in the Lac du Bois Grasslands. Check ou the other videos in his collection after you watch this one.

ShareTech Nic, Coppermine, and couloir have been busy researching and doing field work on the old homesteads of the Lac du Bois Grasslands. About half of the cahces are now placed. The work also includes some maps and now a first effort at a video. To see the Dumont Homestead video on You Tube, go to this link.
